Commode Chairs and Raised Toilet Seats

Commode chairs and toilet seat risers are among the basic compensatory aids for people with reduced mobility, seniors and patients during recovery. They make toilet use easier and, depending on the type of aid, can increase safety and independence during personal hygiene.

Commode chairs serve as standalone portable toilets and can be placed, for example, near the bed. The range includes fixed and folding models, models with removable hygiene containers and mobile commode chairs. Armrests and a suitably selected seat height provide support when sitting down and standing up, while removable parts make regular cleaning of the aid easier.

Toilet seat risers increase the height of the seating surface of a standard toilet, thereby reducing the range of movement required when sitting down and standing up. Available options include simple raised seats as well as models with armrests or height adjustment. Some models allow the height to be adapted to the user's current needs.

When using a toilet seat riser, its stability and correct attachment to the toilet bowl are particularly important. For commode chairs, factors such as dimensions, load capacity, seat height and, where applicable, the ability to fold or move the chair are important. A suitably selected aid should take into account the user's mobility as well as the environment in which it will be used.
